Scientific Boating eLearning

The SBSA is excited to announce that access to the Scientific Boating eLearning course is open!

This course is hosted on the American Academy of Underwater Sciences (AAUS) eLearning platform. A big thank you to AAUS for hosting this course!

eLearning Use – MOTC Courses

The Scientific Boating eLearning course is comprised of content from the DOI Motorboat Operator Certification Course (MOCC). This material has been revised in some areas for clarity and updated to reflect current boating standards. Please contact SBSA for documentation of these edits.

This content has been approved for course content reciprocity in both MOCC and MOTC. Use of this eLearning is optional and does not replace any required in-person classroom hours for MOTC courses. Instructors must be approved MOTC Instructors and complete all required course elements.

To learn more about becoming an MOTC Instructor, please contact SBSA.

eLearning Use – Non-MOTC Courses

This eLearning content may be used as a teaching aid by instructors who are not MOTC Instructors, for training outside of the MOTC. Students must be informed that completing this eLearning or your course does not result in MOTC completion unless the course is taught by an MOTC Instructor and all other required elements of the MOTC are completed.

To learn more about becoming an MOTC Instructor, please contact SBSA.

eLearning Use – AAUS Scientific Diving Courses

SBSA only grants access to the Scientific Boating Course module. Additional courses (e.g., Scientific Diving, Lead Diver, etc.) are available only to AAUS Organizational Members, with access granted directly by AAUS.

Additional information about AAUS eLearning access can be found here https://www.aaus.org/AAUS/AAUS/E-Learning.aspx

Accessing the Scientific Boating eLearning Platform

If you are a SBSA Organizational Member (OM) and would like to request access for your students, please follow these steps:

  • You must be an active SBSA OM. Confirm that your annual dues are paid here.
  • Complete this registration template SBSA_BulkRegistrationTemplate_Feb2026
  • Email the completed template to elearningsbsa@gmail.com
      • Submit the completed template as soon as possible. While students are usually imported within a few business days, processing may take up to a week due to field schedules – please plan accordingly. After processing is complete, you will receive a follow-up email with instructor and student login credentials, access instructions, and an instructor guide for navigating the platform.
      • For last minute course additions, please submit an updated template with the new students added at the bottom.

Once access is granted, log in at the AAUS eLearning site:

  • Website: https://elearning.aaus.org/
  • Course: Scientific Boating
      • Note: The course will only appear on your homepage if you have completed the above steps. Having general access to AAUS modules is not enough – SBSA must enroll you directly in the Scientific Boating module.

If you represent an organization that uses scientific boating and would like to request guest access for yourself, please complete this form.
