By becoming a member of the SBSA, you join a collaborative forum of scientific boating administrators and boating safety professionals dedicated to sharing information that enhances the safety of faculty, students, and researchers. SBSA members actively contribute to the development of current standards of practice for training, equipment, and scientific boating procedures. In addition, your membership strengthens SBSA’s collective voice when representing scientific boating interests in discussions with federal, state, and local agencies.
SBSA also provides annual training awards to support students and instructors pursuing boating safety training. Most importantly, your support helps ensure that scientific boating is conducted in a safe and effective manner.
Renewing members do not need to resubmit an application. You can pay membership dues by using the PayPal link at the bottom of this page. If you have new boating safety personnel to add to the forum, please send us their information via the Contact Us link.

Organizational Membership is increasing in 2026 to $150/ year. This increase is to support new initiatives, including the Instructor Training Award, OM MOTC Award, and eLearning administration. With an Organizational membership base encompassing the entire United States, the SBSA is the largest, most influential scientific non-profit boating organization in the world. SBSA has achieved its prominent position through effective advocacy, enlightened leadership, technical competence and hard work.

Scientific boaters and educators not affiliated with an Organizational Member as well as those with research boating experience can have a say in national scientific boating policy. Membership is $25/year. Individual Members do have a vote in SBSA policy and BoD elections.
